Dozens of brands, many attributed âPremiumâ, âNaturalsâ and other eye-catching attributes, with very different prices. How to know which is the best food for your dog? Here are clear criteria for deciding with information, not with marketing package.
You are not allowed to use the word âpremiumâ
âPremiumâ, âGourmetâ, âHolisticâ, are actually terms that require strict and clear universal definitions in Costa Rica. And many times, these are the terms that are usually in the foreground and highlighted in the packaging of pet food: so that the marketing teams want to call your attention. However, the most important ones will usually be found in the menu letters in the list of ingredients and the warranty analysis on the product label.
What to check in the label?
List of Ingredients: The first ingredient is the one that proportionally contains the most food. Ideally, you should cook sea meat, such as chicken, fish, fish or corduroy.
It is also important to note that these ingredients are real meat, not industrial âbyproductsâ such as âmeat proteinâ, ârendered meat flourâ or âmeat flavorâ.
Eyes with fillers: Corn flour, wheat and soy are usually low cost ingredients and not necessarily the best for your dog. Preferred that they not appear in the ingredients list, especially in the first five places.
Important to review if the food contains artificial colorants and preservatives.
Make sure you follow nutritional standards (like those of AAFCO or FEDIAF) for the stage of life that corresponds to your pet.
The key that the product keeps with the sanitary register before SENASA is properly identified on the label.
If you are looking for a practical option to receive your pet’s food, you can also consider a home dog food service, always reviewing first the quality, the ingredients and the nutritional value of the product.
Observe your dog
No tag replaces your dog’s observation. What food do you like? ?The expectation, the search and the arrival with enthusiasm? Have you given the bowl clean? After several weeks, how do you notice your complexion: shiny or opaque? How are your penis, your energy and your skin? All these aspects can be excellent indicators of your dog’s well-being and help you know if the food is appropriate for him.
You can also observe how he responds to the awards he receives. If you choose snacks with natural ingredients for dogs, check that they are suitable for their size, age and needs, and offer portions with moderation. This is how you can maintain a balanced diet without neglecting those little moments of reward.
Do you concentrate food cooked with fresh ingredients?
The concentrate is practical and accessible, but if you are convinced that the best food for dogs is one prepared with fresh and natural ingredients, complemented with the necessary nutrients and formulated by experts in animal nutrition to comply with the nutritional profiles of the AAFCO, then the fresh and frozen food can be an excellent alternative.
